Assumptions/Postulates of Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases

Writer's picture: Your HelperYour Helper

  1. All gases are made up of small particles, such particles are called molecules.

  2. Volume of individual gas is negligible in comparison to the total volume of gas contained in a container

  3. Gas molecules are always in random motion. They motion in straight path until they get collide with another molecule or in the wall of container and again travel in straight

  4. The inner molecular force of attraction of gases are negligible

  5. The pressure exerted by the gas is determined by the collision of gas molecules with the walls of the container

  6. The molecular collision among gas molecules is elastic in nature.

  7. The average KE energy of molecules is directly proportional to the absolute temperature

  8. There is no any effect of gravity on the motions of gas molecules
